Final Curtain Call!Join us this Tuesday (April 29) at 6:30-7:45 pm for the free 2008 Screening & Awards Ceremony at the Hollywood Theatre in Northeast Portland. It's free! Click on the poster below for a .pdf version! About The YOUthFILM Project 2008...Due to the success of last year's contest, The YOUthFILM Project is back! The YOUthFILM Project is an annual student filmmaking contest, presented by a team of volunteer lawyers from the Multnomah Bar Association's Young Lawyers Section, that gives students (K-12) an opportunity to express themselves creatively, learn more about the rule of law, win prizes, and have fun! The YOUthFILM Project allows students to show off their creativity, knowledge, and skills by producing a short film on civics issues for the opportunity to win awesome prizes! Top films will be screened for the public at the Hollywood Theatre in Northeast Portland, on April 29, 2008 at 6:30 p.m., during Community Law Week 2008. Prizes will be awarded at the screening by honorary guests, including Oregon Supreme Court Chief Justice Paul J. De Muniz. Prizes include iPod Shuffles™, gift cards to the iTunes Store™, and movie tickets. All entrants will be entered into a drawing for a Video iPod™ and other prizes. We are pleased to announce that this year's program features video participation by the Oregon Attorney General candidates, Professor John Kroger and Representative Greg Macpherson, who will introduce the films, share their thoughts on the rule of law, and provide inspiration to our future leaders. This year's contest was based on the American Bar Association's 2008 Law Day Theme, The Rule of Law: Foundation for Communities of Opportunity and Equity. Despite the challenging theme, we received nearly 100 registrations from throughout Oregon, including Scappoose, Sisters, and Salem. This year, nearly all of the entries were produced by middle schoolers (6th through 8th grades). After the screening and awards ceremony, we will post a selection of the 2008 submissions on our website. This year, in addition to a well-attended kickoff event in North Portland with panels of filmmakers and judges, The YOUthFILM Project sponsored a free student film-making workshop led by professional filmmakers. Stay tuned - we have even more exciting plans in store for 2009! For more information, check out the Registration Packet for details, contest rules, and more!
